Looking for a few good teams! Wade is in need of some groups of people to adopt a room to clean, paint, and do some minor maintenance in order to get them ready for the kids to come back. These are updates that need to be done in order to be in compliance with the application requirements. Please help us to get the kids back soon! If you can organize a team or would like to help, please call 304.323.3777.
A FEW PAST EVENTS:
Wade
plans special events for people of all ages that provide opportunities for cultural
enrichment. Some also function as fundraisers that help us continue our important
work in the community. Check this page regularly for a list of events we are planning
in the future, and then mark your calendar so you won't miss out on any of the
action! Check out a few of our favorite past events!
The Wade cafeteria was turned into a Christmas spectacular as vendors and artisans came to display their wares at our first Christmas Bazaar. With over twenty vendors, there was something for everyone on your Christmas list! Santa arrived and greeted us warmly while free hot apple cider was given to all those who came. Vendors very graciously gave part of their proceeds to the Wade Center as a donation. Look for this event next year as well! We had so much fun we want to make it an annual event!
Awaken 8-11! An amazing night of prayer for the Wade Center and community. We walked, we prayed and we worshipped! Prayer warriors, including several local pastors, gathered on the playground at the Wade Center on 8-11-11 and set out to circle the building, inside and out and cover it with prayer. “We want to bring the focus back to Christ in all that we do here. We dedicate it all for the glory of the Lord,” said Operations Manager Jessica McDaniel as she opened the evening. The prayer walk concluded with a time of worship led by Jeremy and Meghan Hardy, accompanied by Kris Hardy. It was a sweet and intense time of repentance and rededication, followed by praises being sung to God - our creator and sustainer.
Each year, Wade hosts a road race as part of the Mountain Festival. We offer both 5K walks and runs, and we've also recently added a 10K. Hundreds of participants come from all over the region to take part in this fun adventure on the streets of Bluefield. All proceeds benefit Wade's work with youth!
Some comedians think shows filled with profanity and off-color humor are funny. But not Ron McGehee! He has made a name for himself as a family-friendly comedian, even starring on NBC's "Last Comic Standing." He didn't disappoint at Wade either, leaving all our sides hurting from laughing so hard.
It's one of the hottest exercise trends in the country, and now it's a great way to help us raise funds for the Wade Center's work with at-risk youth. Our three-hour "Zumbathons" are a fun way to dance off up to 1,500 calories or more! Be sure to check this page regularly to see when the next one is!
